The marble coffee table, pictured in the video above, is a key trend piece this season, sculptural in form and to some extent a statement piece to center the living space around. Although bold and heavy, the addition of this piece offsets the sofa perfectly, ensuring the room doesn't feel dated or too traditional. Joanna, who is known for her contemporary industrial style, revealed her interior design tips, where she shared the story behind all her home remodels. The memory, Joanna shares, dates back to New Mexico, where she found her signature style whilst traveling with her husband Chip. In her blog, Joanna described the picture she always has in her mind when designing. Backed by the show’s success, the couple began expanding Magnolia.

Is Joanna Gaines’ Style Expensive to Implement?

As the clip shows the pair exploring and tearing down walls in the new space, he admits, "I think Jo and I are out of our element to some extent, but I think we're up for the challenge." Bertie’s on the Rooftop will serve seasonal dishes on the hotel’s rooftop terrace while the Brasserie at Hotel 1928 will offer southern comfort classics with a uniquely Texas twist. The building will also house the Café at Hotel 1928, a spot to grab a morning pick-me-up or sweet treat. Sam Burros is a writer, producer, and cook working with the Food and Lifestyle team at PEOPLE. I found what I was looking for when Chip and I stopped in a small town on our way to the mountains of New Mexico,’ Joanna shares. With added touches of concrete and steel—and a creative nook for the firewood—this retreat is still just as cozy. In the photo that was posted on a now-expired Instagram story, Joanna showed off her long locks that are often styled in sleek loose curls when she's filming. She shared the picture before any styling was done and revealed her natural volume and nearly hip-length hair.

Spread the love with concrete

Be sure to find a color that speaks to you and have fun with it! For that classic Gaines look, go for a bright red or stained wood. And as always, let the personality of your home’s original exterior shine through alongside your own. Want to know some other ways Chip and Joanna add visual interest and curb appeal to the exterior of a house?

Whether you’re a fan or just looking for some home inspo and advice, we’ve rounded up 25 tips and techniques straight from Joanna herself. Gaines often uses black accents, hardware, tile, and cabinetry to achieve her signature clean look. In her new home, she even opted for a black fireplace in the bedroom.

From shiplap walls to open shelving, her signature touches are everywhere. Shortly after their wedding, Joanna Gaines joined her husband’s house-flipping business. While he worked on the renovations, she (without any formal training) handled the decorating.

The Jackson House

A low-to-the-ground Ford sectional maximizes the space, surrounded by a cast-aluminum side table and round wood coffee table—all from Magnolia. She and her husband, Chip, the co-stars of “Fixer Upper,” have married Texas tradition with modern taste to create a wildly popular brand. Ideal to brighten up your living space, this faux monstera plant needs no maintenance and so it will look continually fresh in your home. Shown above is another example of the designer's interior styling and the use of lots of indoor greenery, this time one of the rooms in the married couple's 'The Castle' project. The overload of wooden textures creates the vague sense that you may be showering inside an (incredibly chic) tree house.

Fixer Upper’s Joanna Gaines Answers All Your Renovating Questions

The bedroom was another blank space, with just a ceiling fan overhead and some white built-in shelving to break up the room. The original dining room, surrounded by white walls on all sides, was sorely lacking in direction. Prepping the walls for paint first involved buffing with 220-grit sandpaper, and priming came next. Gaines recommends the oil-based Kilz Original interior primer that has a stain blocker to hide the knots in the wood. You mentioned your favorite color combination is black and white, which was surprising since you use so much color.

While Mrs Gaines found her design inspiration in New Mexico, the founder of the global design label found his further east in Thailand. However, while the designer revealed that memories of traveling sparked her living room ideas, she is not alone. Leave it to the Gaines to transform a shack into a total package. This Crawford, Texas-based home was super-unique with concrete counters, shiplap, repurposed wood, and touches of steel. "Not much has changed and I'll probably regret this photo but it's worth saying again kids... the world needs who you were made to be!" she wrote in the accompanying caption.

Simple and fresh, it favoured neutral colours and existing structural elements—such as shiplap—while introducing industrial accents. When you think “Joanna Gaines,” you probably think “shiplap” — and rightfully so! It’s one of the cornerstones of the modern farmhouse style and a staple in a Gaines design project.Sometimes on Fixer Upper, the couple finds original shiplap underneath drywall and paint it white. But, if your house doesn’t have that, you can always install it. It’s a technique in which horizontal slabs of wood are installed overlapping one another slightly. The idea is to create a water-tight surface that will be safe from mold and mildew.

The following year the couple introduced Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, a collaboration with the retailer Target. Otherwise, Gaines opted for simple elegance with the furnishings, including a long oval dining table with soft curves contrasted with the black Hawkins dining chairs around it. Gaines notes that once those key pieces were in place, it was easier to fill in the gaps with the large fiddle-leaf fig tree, the mirror, and smaller decor items. “All of these elements work together to create a natural flow that makes the room feel both functional and beautiful,” Gaines says. Honestly, I hate doing laundry, but if I can make it a space I love being in, it can make the chore that I hate the most actually be somewhat enjoyable. I also loved making it feel like it was always a part of the farmhouse; I didn't want it to feel like an add-on.

A country gal herself, Gaines dropped the farmhouse trend right at our feet, and we'd be remiss not open the door and enter her world. Touches of Joanna’s farmhouse style are visible in almost all of Joanna's designs, including in this rustic-chic living room from Fixer Upper (seen above). Many of Gaines’ designs include monochromatic wrought-iron light fixtures and hardware features that are a signature of the Waco-based expert.
